        the academy: too much scrutiny inevitably makes one want 
        
        to scatter to dark corners to escape the light, to avoid being the object 
        of obsessive voyeurism, which scholarship inevitably 
        tends to emulate. How difficult it becomes to be watched while working: 
        one begins watching oneself being watched and while watching the watching 
        one loses the work or it becomes about all the 
        watching going on. Its a pyramid scheme, and not enough audience 
        to go around. Who will watch the watchers?
